Starting Again after a Major Distraction: Find Inner Strength

The number of people who are unable to work their way toward a goal is enormous, and lack of motivation is not the culprit all the time. These people have the resources, abilities, and wisdom to get things done. As it appears, one very prominent enemy in the challenge of reaching a goal is distractions. No matter how prepared a person is to move forward in setting his goal, a single distraction can overpower them and shake the entire strength to remain on their course.

‘’In my experience, motivation isn’t the greatest obstacle. There are ways to get it back even when you fight that writer’s block. The harder things to beat are distractions because they crush our desires and resolve, causing a tide of negative feelings to rise in our mind’’ – speaks Tom Wesley, writer at EssayGeeks.

Two Major Distraction Types to Look Out For

Before we go into the challenge of finding the inner strength to beat distractions, we need to differentiate between different distraction types. Generally speaking, there are two major types:

An external distraction that triggers an inner reaction

More often than not, events and people in our external environment will trigger a specific inner reaction or feelings that beat our strength. Such distractions require two things from you: to remove yourself from them physically and make your final goals clear to yourself and others. If you cannot do the first, then you’ll have to do the latter. People might think that you are arrogant or strange, but going out of your ways to accommodate others’ expectations is exactly the distraction that will make you stray from your own path.

An inner thought that triggers and external action

This type of distraction is much tougher to beat. Your thoughts aren’t always controllable and yet, they are connected to your expectations and goals. Once again, you need to remove yourself from such distractions which is where the problem arises. You need to learn how to remove your mind from the distraction to avoid the bad external action, which is why you need to find your inner strength.

Ways to Find Your Inner Strength

Basically, the main enemy in both situation is you. No matter what type of distraction is beating your chances at reaching a goal, it is you who needs to find the inner strength to remove yourself from the situation. Here is how that’s done.

1.  Find the Answer to the Question ‘’Why’’

It is wise to direct your anger towards problems - not people; to focus your energies on answers - not excuses. - William Arthur Ward

If you need to find the strength to beat a distraction, you need to ask yourself why you are in that situation in the first place. This will help you find your answers. If you know the problem and the purpose, you can source the deepest strengths and tackle every setback.

2.  You Are Your First Priority

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. - Norman Vincent Peal

Many people argue that a balance between work and life does not really exist. If you put yourself on a pedestal and set your goals and needs as a priority, you will have exactly what you need to keep going despite any distractions. No matter who you are or what you do, your inner strength always comes from knowing you have what it takes to get things done.

3.  Make Decisions and Act on Them

It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. - Tony Robbins

If you let others make your decisions, you won’t be as willing to act on them as you would if you make them for yourself. Indecision promotes failure and distractions, so if you want to source that inner strength, you need to act on your own decisions, even if others don’t approve.

4.  Don’t Let Fear Pull You Back

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ - Eleanor Roosevelt

Fear should never get the chance to factor in the decision-making process. If you let fear overcome you and influence your actions, you are letting distractions guide your path and completely rejecting your inner strength. Fears are your biggest enemy and they can be your biggest friend if you learn to accept them.

If you embrace the things that scare you, you can do the things that cannot be done. Take on big challenges to reach your goal, even if fear convinces you otherwise. Your fear is the enemy to your inner strength, and another distraction you have to remove.

5.  De-clutter the Mental Junk

Amidst all the clutter, beyond all the obstacles, aside from all the static, are the goals set. Put your head down, do the best job possible, let the flak pass, and work towards those goals. - Donald Rumsfeld

Want to find your inner strength? Then it is time to remove that junk from your brain! It is what takes away your energy and clarity and keeps your focus away from you.

One great way to do this is to meditate and leave a healthy life. The best ways to make yourself mentally clear is to work on removing the things that clutter your mind. This will, in return, make you more decisive and able to let your inner strength out.

Did this help you? Remember – your inner strength is unique to yourself and it is you who has to find a way to get it out. These tips will help you find the solution and once you understand that the only thing standing between it and your success are distractions you let go by, you can finally be ready to beat them to their core.
